I think googles big river of ads income will soon have less water. With all the new competiton ...

So long as this new competition actually helps shoppers find products, I'd welcome it. Google just isn't cutting it and is largely Amazon ads. Should FB actually provide shoppers with options instead of ads like Google, and connect consumers to well-established/trusted independent stores, they could capture a lot of market share.

They are just lately & more frequently slipping additional ads in near the top of the SERPs.

Seen multiple SERPS lately with 4 ads, then AIO followed by 1 - 3 organic results then PAA or PASF followed by another 2-3 ads.

This was the layout I seen on one SERP.

Looks to me like they are desperately trying to hit revenue targets. Nothing but Ad spam.

Youtube = open vid, watch 60 seconds of ads, realise you need to skip forward straight away to get to the actually content you want to watch, skip forward only to be presented with another 60 secs of the exact same ads you watched two seconds ago. Also if you have adsense on your site and enable settings so that G can place them (dont know the exact terms they call this), then be prepared for you site to turn into Ad spam central.

Grok is infinitely more useful than Google...in fact, Grok helped me refactor a ton of old PHP code from 2007, and it is now PHP 8+ compatible and more secure.

It's not exactly reassuring, but many publishers have noticed that traffic via Discover declined on the 18th (I'm one of them). On top of that, the feed has become even more useless.

Meanwhile in Australia, Slater and Gordon have started a class action against Google adwords. We've registerd and advised all our adwords clients to do the same.

@mosxus Why is the EU one of the biggest losers? We have good protection, copyright is held in extremely high regard here, Google has real problems here (there is currently discussion about a billion-dollar fine for Google). So I think the situation is much better than in the US.

We should not have to create content that brings in 100s+ views per day. For a good stable month, by the way. Then these same said articles drop from their 100s+ views to a mere 30. WTF?! How is that even possible? Alas, sadly it happens. Too often in fact... Our content. Youtube included and our traffic should not be manipulated like this. I understand trends. But these were not topics on anything trending. Also, it lasted a good month until the traffic fell.

I, also, wish I hadn't but I came across a Reddit post yesterday, stating that Google is now the most profitable company in the world. As someone who got hit by their ''updates'' and still does. As Bing and the rest do not bring as much traffic in, in comparison. I suddenly have a bad taste in my mouth.

Fines, even in the billions, is just a cost of doing business for Google. When Google gets hit with a big fine, they make users pay for it by forcing them to click more ads and publishers to pay for it buy spending more on ads to replace lost traffic. History tells us this is true, and will likely continue as potential "remedies" are too weak and ineffective. Substantial structural changes to Google are needed to restore law and order to the digital world (had to quote Trump). A big fine and selling off Chrome isn't enough. Google should also be forced to sell Youtube and Gmail while also divesting their interest in Android. It wouldn't hurt to charge some Google executives criminally and send them to prison, which would help deter future executives from rinsing and repeating what their predecessors did.

Ah, and then what? You and I and everyone else here get a piece of that fine? No, it'll just go into government coffers, and instead of Google stealing from us it's now the government effectively taxing us. Or at least partially, because a billion is about 3% of Google's profit in just one quarter.

@longjohnbronze Take a look at the ENP program. Sure, the payout is unfairly distributed, but at least Google has to pay. The billion-dollar fines may not go directly to each individual, but they send a clear message: the EU is standing idly by. And unlike in the US, Google has much less room for lobbying in Europe, and that's important. I'm not saying it's a perfect system. There's still a lot of work to be done. But it's better than nothing, and definitely better than what they in the US have. Furthermore, content theft is already being discussed in committees in Brussels, so it is on the radar.

At least some money gets distributed, which does not happen in the USA. In the USA, Government achieves big fines and keeps the money and possibly distributes some of that money to states who then keep the money themselves. So it's good that Google's payments in your country reach some victims, but we in the USA don't have that and must sue on our own. I see BBC is the latest to threaten [yahoo.com...] AI scraper Perplexity, but big media/journalism is really just a small portion of the victim pool left behind by these AI thieves.

Too many publishers and businesses have been speaking out lately. Hopefully, the looming class actions all around the world will force the clueless SEO to reconsider his actions—or lead to his removal altogether.

2. For the USA SERPS specifically, non-USA sites have been expunged from MY top 30. Regulars here will recall I have been reporting this elimination of "foreign" sites for several years.

The very few "foreign" sites still in the SERPs have all created USA office contact locations, nothing more.

All country-specific Google SERPs have been affected but not to the extent as the USA, as yet.

The future for many current ecommerce websites looks very bleak if one is expecting an income from it therefore business brochureware sites may well become the norm, honestly it's 20+ years since we last issued printed brochures, however until G's stranglehold and manipulation is curtailed (extremely doubtful) there is basically nothing exciting whatsoever about the Net, sad but true.

I don't know why but it reminds me of "Saw the Riddler" but Google edition. This comment by Jm makes it clear that publishers and seo are trying, but the results? Today is fine and in a few seconds everything is lost. Record low Google traffic on Monday.

Im wondering if any ecommerce site owners out there are experiencing the same? We had record low sales from Thursday 19/6 to Sunday 22/6 (no change in ranking), then we had a surge in sales on Monday 23/6 (6 times the number of sales compared to last Thursday/ Friday- no change in ranking) only to be back to zombie traffic Tuesday 24/6.
