TikTok SEO update: google is now listing TikTok short form video within its SERPS Above YouTube for informational searches

I figured this was coming so Google could co-opt the space for YouTube shorts (since shorts has failed to grow a user base). They'll slowly introduce YouTubShorts into the TikTok/Reels listings and then take share from TikTok.

Apart from this being a move for Google to take more market share, where is this going to benefit users on TikTok?

Google has been showing tiktok, instagram, facebook, and youtube shorts like this for over a year, since 2020. they do show up more often in the past two months.

Not nearly to this effect though. Looks like the test has gone mainstream. I am getting it everywhere now, where even a month ago it was random.

It's a desperate race to the bottom of the garbage pile ... G is now reflecting completely the public's requirements and attention span!

@RedBar Ummm no - not at all. I watch about a half hour to hour a day of TikTok. I get a great deal of "Edvertorial" news that I don't get elsewhere. Much of it breaking news that takes a hour to show up on the web, and often on the major TV networks. Like the explosion at the Hoover dam a little bit ago - watched that within 10mins on TikTok. Btw: did you know TikTok now supports 10min videos and they also live stream?

Google is playing catchup here. This is the first real threat to YouTube watch hours they have ever had.

Back to TikTok for Google SEO: So, looks like we are going down the Voice-To-Text road optimization again.

However Brett not all of us want all this information ramming down our throats every minute of the day. Instant news gratification can be an addiction and what's worse is when those addicts deem it neccessary to immediately inform everyone in their contact list.

Like many others I have work to do, I do not need constant interruptions. I am not saying there is anything wrong with this type of reporting so long as it is accurate, simply that I do not need everyone to be mini-reporters and feel that I need those details immediately and have a response / reaction to it.

It probably has less to do with taking market share than with preserving market share:

You mean Google is being deserted? Surely a non stop diet of ads, ads and more ads isn't the cause of it?

April Fool's joke month early?

Going off my experience lately, they'd have more chance of finding what they want on TikTok than they would by using Google.

As the article points out, Google is less popular (compared to TikTok) with Gen Z searchers than with the population at large. That's hardly the same as Google's being "deserted," but it would be marketing malpractice for Google to simply ignore a trend among the TikTok set.

What does search engine have to do with youth entertainment trends? It's like expecting CNN.com to "not ignore the trend" and start adding funny cat videos on top of news articles. TickTock simply has no place in search. It's a niche entertainment app. Very big one, but still useless for anything but entertainment.

I don't even find it entertaining - it's obnoxious. And I am not exactly boomer age-wise too (junior millennial).

For Google to show TikTok pages for informational searches shows just how far the quality of their search product has plummeted.

There is a place for TikTok and it's clearly popular amongst certain sectors but would you want to pay good money for ads on it? YouTube income declined last year. Google's answer? Pack the SERPs with YouTube videos and pack the videos with ads. Personally I now avoid it like the plague - and since (although there are a few gems there) the fact that it is free to upload videos means that there are an awful lot of very poor quality ones - leaving aside the infuriating ads. All my 'how to' type searches are now done on Neeva; I can not only actually find web sites that tell me how to do what I want to do (try doing that on Google ), but I can also find videos hosted on other platforms which, since uploading them has to be paid for, are of far higher quality than anything YouTube has to offer.

For Google to partly blame TikTok for their decline is just an excuse IMO. No wonder the CEO decided that she had better things to do. Then again perhaps she didn't want to share a desk in order to save money, as so many Google employees are now being ordered to do.

Oh, and I definitely am Boomer age <BWG>; Google should remember that we are the ones with money to spend, and stop destroying their product for us in a vain attempt to appear trendy to the young.
