Major SEO Changes- How Long to Wait to Evaluate

I have a 5-year old site that has done well over the years and then started tank about a year ago. I made some pretty big changes to the entire site.

1) Site is now completely responsive (all devices) design. Was previous just for desktop.

2) Made sure every page (that I want to rank for) had at least 700 words of solid content. Previously most pages had less than 400 words.

3) Non-indexed all fluff or anything that wasn't worthy.

4) Speed up server to the max.

I made all of these changes to a site that previously had 7,000 indexed pages. Now I have 1,200 indexed pages (the ones I want users to find).

Question: How long should I wait until I re-evaluate how the site is doing from an SEO perspective?

Within a month I started to see a 30% jump in traffic and it is still growing. Any input is appreciated.

Do you mean how long you should wait before you decide whether you need to make more SEO-related changes?

If it were me, I would probably just keep watching the traffic and not do anything as long as the uptrend continues.

Thanks for the input. I usually give 3-4 months and then fully re-eval pages, but I haven't done a major seo change to site in over 6 years (totally different world today).

It sounds like you took some good steps that are paying off. There's nothing wrong with wait and see ( don't know much about your space ) but I would personally look at how I could double down on what's working ie. quality content, backlinks etc..

You can still evaluate and adjust every quarter but I'd love if all my competitors just played watch and wait most of the year.

Getting site to "current standards" was the first hurdle. Next is keeping fresh content to keep the growing traffic coming. If you are reliant upon only 1200 pages and do nothing more, you will reach a plateau and that will be that ... until the next algo change.

@PJman, that you ARE seeing an increase in traffic is an indication these were correct moves! To keep it growing, the site needs to grow as well.

Think you already made quite some good changes. Therefore the increase in traffic. For now I wouldn't make any major changes, but focus on adding more quality content (blogs or fag / wiki pages for example). And try to get more high quality backlinks.
