Google will bold words in the serps that match your search term or are related synonyms. It is very useful to pay attention to what words Google bolds to better understand how Google relates different words & ideas, Then when you create new content you can use that knowledge to create better content that is easier for Google to figure out is very relevant to the search term.

Note: Bing does the same thing ... helps the user to locate their search criteria and the serps displayed.

if it's in the title tag they are probably using unicode characters that look like bolded ascii characters.

&#120023;&#120046;&#120053;&#120053;&#120056; &#120064;&#120056;&#120059;&#120053;&#120045;. Maybe throw in a couple of emoji while you're at it&#10071; &#10024; &#128567;

Anyway, search for Unicode Text Converter and you'll probably find something.

Just be aware that any unicode characters, or "words" you form with them, may be ignored by Google.

I do it by pasting into a text editor and hitting cmd-R for HTML preview. (Why this site's software can't simply be taught NOT to convert an & when followed by # into &amp; must remain an unanswerable question.)

It's to draw your eyes to snippets that contain the words (or very similar words) that you used in your query. Makes the SERPS easier to use.
