Haven't seen it discussed here yet. Sounds very interesting, just wonder if it will allow decent customisation of the results or it will be rather like the co-op search. Also I wonder if it forces google to index the whole of your site or just works on the stuff it has already indexed...
For the basic $100 a year fee, Google's Custom Search Business Edition will sift through up to 5,000 web pages. Larger websites can pay $500 per annum to search as many as 50,000 web pages."If you have a web site, we already crawl your web site," said Google Enterprise product manager Nitin Mangtani.
"Now we are saying you don't have to manage search within your site." According to Mr Mangtani, companies should be able to customise the new Google search engine within about 10 minutes.
I have a couple clients at this level who outsource their site search, and spend almost four times that amount. The service they get allows them to tweak their own algo within 10 factors or so. If Google's service also allows different weighting of various factors (including meta keywords) this new site search offering could be a winner.
Specify and prioritize the site(s) and/or pages you want to include in your index
It looks like they've got everything covered.
Surely the searchs being paid for DO NOT enter the google general search index,
I appears like google offering a google powered search box for large sites like say the bbc, cnn, wikipedia
Okay, the info garnered might well enter the main index , but in view of recent problems with really large publishers like newspapers
I wonder if the main search division would not be kept separate from this "service search division"
just a thought, i am probably reading it wrong
"Although we index billions of webpages and are constantly working to increase the number of pages we include, we can't guarantee that we'll crawl all of the pages of a particular site. While we can't guarantee that all pages of a site will consistently appear in our index, and therefore be available for search with CSBE, we do offer our guidelines for maintaining a Google-friendly site."

We add new products to our web store every day. What's the point of sitemaps and a paid service if you can't have every page you want searchable?
No product or service is right for everyone. If the suit doesn't fit, find one that does.
