I was looking at this and here's the problem: If Android Auto is installed users should be able to install their own choice of apps. If the user screws up their system because of the app, they should be aware they'll have to pay to get it restored. imho.

Google could argue that it's their OS, and so they get to decide on what can or can't run on it. Buying it then giving it away free (subject to conditions) was a masterstroke.

A thought has struck me that the answer to this might be a public domain OS for mobile, free from restrictions. Any linux guys out there?

If you buy a car with a warranty, any modifications you make will invalidate the warranty. Simples. If the car has no warranty, you take your own chance.

I suspect, in this case, the app was being sidelined, which, unless there's a problem with the app, should not be the case.
