Has censorship and free speech ever been under this level of attack in America before? Censoring a video of your own exec that, in her words, describes Google's attempts to fix results so their party of choice wins in 2020.... are we in 1939 again? I thought we learned that reporting should be unbiased and such already.

Google is a private company. Can you imagine if the customers and employees in your store were allowed to say whatever they wanted to each other. That is not how free speech works. So tired of every website I ever visit turning into a political site. Maybe this is just another site i need to avoid until i just stop using the internet. End of rant.

Yes public as in its shares are traded on the public stock-exchange. But it is a private company in the sense that is not owned by the government.

Ownership not required, but if regulated as a public utility, then in that sense the government could be involved.

*update* Google execs are deleting their social profiles today. They were revealed to be silencing people's voices for political gain, ie: electioneering, now they need to pay the price, plain and simple. This has nothing to do with politics, Google deciding who can and cannot be found online based on a directive to their AI to silence voices they disagree with(but are often very, very valid like Project Veritas catching them doing it) is wrong and unconstitutional.

Google got too big and lost their neutrality, they need to be broken up, it's that simple. If you don't want Google to stop just because you like who they are doing it to you flatly missed the point.

Yes, Google is a private company, but they are able to silence whomever they want from the internet(and are doing it) because they don't like them(even if telling the absolute truth) which is not legal in this country. They know it, they are deleting their own social profiles as I type this because they know they've done wrong as a company. They won't stop unless forced.

This is the end of my fight with them, I have no interest in stumping for the side they are against, but fairness and rule of law can't be ignored like this so... duck-duck-go, adsense alternatives, removal of anything Google from my life. They allowed AI to use me to silence people, to heck with that. People need to go to jail, not just get a fine here.

Or, option B, Reword your post and then everyone’s confusion will be cleared up. Right now there are half a dozen possible interpretations, leading to half a dozen different responses. Surely you would like people to respond to what you really meant rather than what they think you might possibly have meant.

I suggest you go to project veritas and listen to Jen Gennai's exact words, and the the other videos of ex employees recording current Google leadership, and make up your own minds. You won't find the videos on youtube, Twitter or Facebook, these three have teamed to protect Google and delete the videos along with their own social profiles.

This is huge, who knows how many of our sites are partially unseen, even if not political at all, just because Google doesn't like us as individual webmasters. I think the FBI needs to investigate these latest revelations, they clearly show criminal behavior(in the US).

Also, right now, Google is plugging the leaks as you'd expect, but are they coming clean, being open or knocking it the heck off? No, they are all in, their AI has been instructed, I think the FBI need to get a good long look at that AIs coding and oversight.

I've been working on some news aggregation. The whole left vs right thing sounds very tricky to get a balance. Perhaps some transparency or ability to customise/reset any bias would alleviate any perceived problems.

OK, glad you cleared up your definition of "free speech" (which is what I was asking).

You specifically said "free speech," not anything about the 1st Amendment. Maybe we're talking semantics, but to me (and many others) "free speech" extends beyond the 1st Amendment. True, because Google is not a government entity (although some might debate aspects of that), it therefore is not subject to the 1st Amendment, and there is no law (that I know of) stating that a private (i.e., non-government) company is required to allow free speech.

But that doesn't hide the fact that Google IS censoring information according to its own bias and interfering with free speech (from a non-1st Amendment perspective).

Similarly, there is no law saying that everyone has to use Google. And as more people understand Google's bias, I expect more people will abandon Google for other entities that DO honor the principle of free speech.

Since when is one source for the world's information a good thing? Google's influence is beyond the scope of what most grasp. That list of suggested articles that every Android phone gets in Chrome? Whelp, I'm sure I keep seeing around 20 sources or less. I know, I know. It's me, it's not Google. I think anyone who observes the SERPS knows and can name the "go to" source that take up all the news headlines and get onto all of the Android devices on earth. It's a short list. Who can debate that? Anyways, I just hope for more S to hit the fan because that's what it will take for some change. One global newspaper? It's almost that bad. Sure we can click to another option, but let's just kill Bing just so we can end that loophole in the argument. Bing sucks, we all know it but it makes it easier for Google as long as they still exist.
