Google has published a new policy for Chrome Extensions and Drive API as a result of its Project Strobe review.

It's looking at Chrome extensions in the web store and it wants developers to only request access to "the appropriate data" needed to implement the extension's features. Developers will have to post privacy policies on how they use the data, and what data is being collected, and why.

we’ll limit apps that use Google Drive APIs from broadly accessing content or data in Drive. This means we’ll restrict third-party access to specific files and be verifying public apps that require broader access, such as backup services.

Google is also taking action on deceptive installation tactics in the Chrome Web Store.

Extensions must be marketed responsibly. Extensions that use or benefit from deceptive installation tactics will be removed from the Chrome Web Store.
