For those of you that take lots of pictures and videos on your phone, backing up is essential, especially if you value the images and videos. Mostly, the options are to backup to the cloud, or manually backup to your computer. Apps are appearing to make this more seamless, and here's one that caught the eye of Google.

We are excited to share that the Odysee Platform Team will be joining the Google+ Team.

Odysee’s vision was to be the easiest way for everyone to capture unlimited memories and access them everywhere. We are very excited to join Google where we'll continue to focus on building amazing products that people love.Google Acquires Photo and Video Backup Startup, Odysee [odysee.com]
the Odysee service will continue till Feb 23rd and soon after that all your photos and videos will be available as a downloadable archive.

Presumably Google will be able to do whatever they wish with the uploaded images and videos? If not, what's the payoff?

I still maintain my own archive of photos on my own website even if no one wants to go off Facebook to look at them these days.

Google never really had the uptake of users on its other photo services. Yahoo ruined Flickr by requiring a Yahoo login and changing it too much.
