Google Inc. plans today to announce an online repository where consumers can store their health information -- a move that could boost the nation's fledgling efforts to adopt electronic medical records.

With the Web service, expected to be called Google Health, consumers will be able to enter their own basic medical data and invite their doctors to electronically send information that would be stored by Google, according to one person who has tested the company's new site. Google declined to comment on the service.

Wonder what kind of contextual ads they'll run based on your patient history. What a great place to advertise types of drugs specifically for a patient's medical history.

Brilliant but scary.

Schmidt claims no ads on Google Health, that it will drive traffic to Google search (probably through embedded search boxes). Seems like an expensive way to accomplish that.

Better late than never.

Think Google will pony up the same bucks as MS has been putting in its Healthvault advertising recently?

There's another discussion before:
[webmasterworld.com...]

Google's been running around trying to purchase health data from some serious providers. But big providers are kindof reluctant - it is obvious big G$ is trying to make $$$ on the data, which is incidentally what big data providers are doing, and they don't need a competitor with deep pockets and advanced data crunching technology.

Don't quote me on that, I'll deny it. Will be interesting though how it plays out.

Is there still anyone out there who still thinks that:
a) G$$gle has no financial problems (trying to make quick buck everywhere possible), and
b) G$$gle is "do no evil" company?
