New Blu-ray Technology Successor To Be Capable of Storing 300 Gigabyte

Just what's needed: Throw out that blu-ray and get a new piece of kit!

Sony and Panasonic have announced plans for a successor to Blu-ray discs.

The firms say they want to develop an optical disc capable of holding at least 300 gigabytes of data by the end of 2015.

By contrast, dual-layer Blu-rays can only hold up to 50GB.

Sony has previously said that 4K ultra-high-definition movies - which offer four times the resolution of 1080p video - were likely to take up more than 100GB of space.

Not really needed. Most people care little about the difference between DVD and Blu Ray.

There is a very noticeable difference between DVD and Bluray, depending on your viewing device. Same can otherwise be said when comparing VHS and DVD.

Yep, the colour & clarity is definitely noticeable on full HD, for me.

It should be beneficial for their PS console too.

As Someone that's trying to archive old videos, i'm trying to find robust data storage. If this is robust, and the data media will have longevity, i'm all for it.
