Firefox Beta now includes a safer, more seamless cross-platform experience for viewing PDF documents. For those of you who have not been following the project, here’s some background.
For a number of years there have been several plugins for viewing PDF’s within Firefox. Many of these plugins come with proprietary closed source code that could potentially expose users to security vulnerabilities. PDF viewing plugins also come with extra code to do many things that Firefox already does well with no proprietary code, such as drawing images and text. These problems, and the desire to push the boundaries of the HTML5 platform, led Andreas Gal and Chris Jones to start a research project they named PDF.js. They also mentioned on the blog that PDF.js is available from Mozilla as an Extension for older browser versions. See [github.com ]

I'm switching back to Firefox from Chrome. Only because Chrome uses up far too much memory; a few windows up and my machine becomes a slug.

I tried PDF.js a while ago and it was very slow with large documents - and a lot of PDfs on the web are large.
I always read PDFs in an external reader so the problem with plugins never bothered me (and the readers I use have not had security issues either)

I usually just use the default for the OS/desktop I am using (usually Okular or Evince). I also use APV on Android.

I use Foxit Reader for PDF Documents as a stand alone app. Lightweight & Free. Windows only version though.

Default ubuntu or mint for me except for a very few foxit accesses by my wife on windows.
NOTE: foxit has just issued an update because of an exploit hoel.

I use Foxit Reader for PDF Documents ... Windows only version though.
I've always liked foxit. They've been ahead of the curve on security. It is too bad that it's only available for windows.

I'm with you there. I still use Chrome as my primary browser, but its memory hungry ways was one of the main things that made me upgrade my main computer last year.
