A criminal complaint filed Tuesday by the Linn County Attorney’s Office spells out an apparent motive.
“(Hopkins) then forced Deyo to log on to his computer and tried to coerce Deyo to transfer a domain name to a third party,” the complaint states. The complaint does not identify the third party.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow confirmed the details of the criminal complaint, but said he could not provide any more information, including identifying the domain name in question.

The take away here is if you are a bad guy with a gun, don't let the victim get it away from you.

We don't have enough info, but it sounds like one guy holding hostage a domain and the other desperate enough to use a gun... and they knew each other. No details, but that seems possible.
"I want to sell!" The other saying "Not enough yet!"
Or could be a freakin' bandit (as phranque suggests).
Regardless, what domain name is worth going to jail? or, How Much Money Is Involved? for such stupidity to be attempted?
Then I look at the crime reports in my city were folks perish over $2 bucks or less... we live in crazy times.
