A proposed E.U. Copyright Directive is aimed at bringing copyright protection forward for the Internet age, however, it is heavily criticised by groups suggesting it will bring excessive censorship.
Article 13 states that platform providers should "take measures to ensure the functioning of agreements concluded with rights-holders for the use of their works".

Critics say this will, in effect, require all internet platforms to filter all content put online by users, which many believe would be an excessive restriction on free speech.

One man's censorship is another's doing the right thing (or not doing the wrong thing!)

Sadly, the onus is being placed on others rather than the copyright holder, who is actually responsible for protecting their copyright.

Where it has failed is the loophole g has used at yt for YEARS that essentially required creators/ip holders to repeatedly DMCA each individual infringement rather than (essentially) notifying g/yt that "this content is protected" and g/yt THEN GOING FORWARD preventing such infringement. If that commonsense application of DMCA had been applied we wouldn't be in this position right now.
