Even better, you own the right to sell rights or usage permissions. For enough compensation, you may choose to sell the entire copyright. For less compensation, you may tier the rights and costs for usage. Image rights are typically sold at different prices for different sizes/resolutions for web use, priced separately if used for logos, priced separately again for print use/quality, and yet again for specific print uses or quantities (print runs). Top tier is to buy all rights.
Similar rights can be sold with text, though the list of potential combinations of price tiers is significantly less. Image price points and usage rights examplify the flexibility that exists, to a point, with text. Check out the terms of use and purchase options with any of the big stock photo sources. Selling text rights is a bit different - yet the same in principle.
I buy a lot less text than images, though create both. In part, because we can write effectively on most any subject. When buying text, exclusivity is key for our purposes. Stock photos on other sites are not a big issue. We have even sold usage permissions to our own images. Text is very different in that regard. I don't want it anywhere else. We buy all rights (everything), or no sale. Not negotiable. Text devalues in a big hurry if used in very many places. If I buy your text it's mine. Chances are I won't even let you retain authorship credit.
That's just what those sites pushing fairly generic content would have you believe. They use fancy names like "Master" and "Blue Label" to make you think you need to do something other than write and copyright an article to be able to do the same thing they do. But you don't....
