something I'm thinking of doing

Like the subheading says, I'm thinking of doing a sort of non-blog with "parody news stories". Headlines could be something like "Linus Buys Microsoft!"

"In a move that shocked and confounded the financial and tech communities .."

Would I get into trouble?

A paragraph to identify the article as parody might be needed.

Part of the reason for the site would be to illustrate how people don't read past the first paragraph before spreading the foolishness.

Another reason would be to have a bit of fun.

Then there is the $0.17/day from Adsense.

Kind of like The Onion? [theonion.com]
Apart from them, I don't think the space is saturated at all. If it's funny it will catch on.

Get into trouble? Unlikely, unless you went too far and crossed into the realms of libel and indecency.

Presuming you to be in the USA, here's some reading material from the Standford Copyright & Fair Use Center [fairuse.stanford.edu] on this very subject.

No libel intended. Indecency? No #*$!, racism, hate. Indecency is often very subjective. While my server is in the US, I'm in Thailand.

I'm not so worried from a copyright POV.

Syzygy, nice link. Parody seems to give more 'fair use' leeway than most other instances.
