I want my content copied!

It's good for exposur but how do I get Google to recognise its our original

daser

My first post on here so bear with me:)

I work on a new sub-domain of a well established site and some bright spark in the affiliate department allowed a high pr affiliate site to reproduce the work of one of our bloggers in full and with no link back to the original posts.

This site has started to rank higher for a combination of phrases and it is only a matter of time that others may actually mistake the copied blog for the original and actually starting to link into that rather than the real blog.

Somebody got in touch and there has no been inserted a line at the end of each entry that says 'Read more of X's blogs at his official X X page here." With the word 'here' linked up to the blog index.

Will this be enough for Google to know that the original content or should the word 'here' link back to the actual entry?

You probably won't rank higher for every search, but Google seems pretty good at figuring it out eventually. It would have been better for each post to link back to the original, but for now you should be thankful to get the link that sends users to the site. You could always check the referer string and put up a blatant link to the original whenever they send someone to you.

Now, take that idiot out behind the woodshed and beat the tar out of him. Then make it clear in any licensing agreement with affiliates that they have to include alinks back to the original document.

I think Google (and other engines) determine original content by the date it was indexed. Older (original) content was hopefully indexed before the copied content was.
