protect download of video from website

Hello

looking for ways to prevent the download from a website of video content.... if this is possible!?

can present video in flash so right click doesnt allow copy... this works/helps, but a look in the view source will reveal vid location

have found a way of encripting html so a look at the viewsource will reveal little.... but have recently discovered this little prob, which renders all previous efforts useless!...

NEW PROBLEM: Anyone with realtime on their computer gets a little popup window sitting on the vid window of any loaded webpage.... so if you are the website visitor you can just click it and download the video file... if you are the website owner / video owner... then the visitor has just popped off with free copy of your content.

1. How can this latest download method be prevented?
2. What is best method of website structure so videos stay for people to watch AT the website?

There is software readily available for every purpose. If I can see it, if I can hear it, no matter the format - I can capture the stream. You can can make it harder for some people some of the time, but that effort and energy is probably better spent in ongoing site development.

it seems to be to modern acceptance.... i started another topic to see how many ways if any/many are there of exploiting the picture pinchers.
see if can turn it into a benefit.

A lot of people ban hotlinking of images. I usually allow and just keep an eye on things. Lots of people hotlink not to steal, but to examplify or offer a sample of what they are talking about. I swap in 'branded' images, nothing heavy handed, typically a low-key www.example.com insertion. The hotlinker doesn't mind, because I'm not being gaudy or offensive and they still get the image. And I don't mind because maybe I pick up a bit of traffic and sales. Rename the original file so that you are still serving up the original image on your own site and everybody's happy.

People who steal to rip me off get entirely different treatment. However, most people aren't 'stealing', they are 'being appreciative':)) That can be a good thing. Had a guy that was hotlinking bunches of our gallery images; more of an 'homage' than anything else. Contacted him directly and wound up making a deal that let him keep right on going, but gave us credit, links... A win-win deal (more win for us on that one) because his little blog page was pretty popular for awhile.

Same deal on other media. Brand it as best that you can, especially video. Depending upon the topic/content you may come out ahead, not behind. People don't capture the stream because it sucks. And if they 'share' it, branding can bring some of their users to your site.

Audio is another matter. I think we're just screwed:))

There's more programs out there than realtime, they have ones specifically for downloading video. Pretty sure there is even firefox extension for it...

As the previous poster mentioned if it can be seen, read or heard you can make a copy. Even hollywood with all their millions or possibly billions spent on trying to protect their content can't do it up to an including the latest and greatest BD+ You can slow them down but its not worth the effort IMO.
