Great! That much quicker people will stop using it. They're trying to do much.

I always ask teens and college kids about cool sites, because what they like today becomes really cool in a year or two, and what they're tired of fades away in a year or two. My niece who sold me on facebook being a contender awhile ago, now says that she hates logging in because the friends she didn't really like in high school are trying to keep up with her as "friends" in facebook...

So now she can "Chat" with those "friends". Naah. Give it another year or so of somewhat cool, then it will be onto the next one..

I think it's a good thing for Facebook users to have more granular control over what people from different groups in their life can and can't see, etc. Interesting that it comes so soon after the recent interview with Sir Tim Berners-Lee

Clark, I'd think this sort of feature might actually help your niece. This way she can put those friends in her 'High School Classmates' group or whatever and limit what they see and how they can interact with her (hopefully chat can be disabled for those people ;) ).

That's a biggie. At one point, Facebook was for your college buddies. Pretty simple to manage, though obviously some may be closer friends than others. Now, with EVERYBODY on Facebook, your "friends" now include not just college buddies, but family members, neighbors, business associates, community group members, the guy at the trade show booth, etc. If Facebook wants to stay relevant, they've got to help users sort that out.
