The online community MySpace is introducing tools for developing games, media-sharing features and other programs that better integrate with the Internet's leading social-networking site.MySpace will formally launch the MySpace Developer Platform next Tuesday with a kickoff event and workshop at its new San Francisco office. Although developers will have all the tools they need to create and test programs, they won't be able to integrate them right away. MySpace has yet to announce a start date for that.
MySpace Adds Developer Tools [news.yahoo.com]
Not such a bad deal if you are the custom programmer I guess, but it certainly adds complexity for those wishing to cater to multiple social networking platforms, each using a different API.
The best thing about MySpace's implementation are that they're keeping the playing field level - no launch partners. Every developer has as good a chance as every other, as everybody will go live the same day.
Coopster, there are two platforms
hehe, sorry about that, lorenzinho2. I made my comment tongue-in-cheek. I should have thrown a ;) in there!
I was hoping to bring up a little discussion in regards to my comment. First, we may as well concede to the thought that there are two major social networks for which we might be developing applications at this point, MySpace and Facebook. My tongue-in-cheek response was not so much from the standpoint of a developer rather as a client that wants an application put forth because of interest in the network.
Do you feel the two networks cater to different social markets?
Or do you feel that if you develop an application for one network/platform you may indeed end up retrofitting the application for the other network/platform as well?
