A few weeks ago I took over a non-existent and decrepit forum that had no, that's ZERO real members and was full of spam, etc, because the previous 'administrator' didn't know what they were doing, and didn't have the time to learn (or be bothered).
But, after a few hours cleaning it all up, and setting everything back to how it should have been, it's looking pretty good.
It's my first forum that I am in charge of, and so I'm tending to monitor it very carefully (in the first couple of days I was checking it every 15 minutes or so...), but now a couple of weeks in, we've got the grand total of 10 users!
Hurray!
I'm still working on my members to actually post messages, but that'll come in time, I'm sure.
My question is, even though I'm only 2 weeks into this thing, is it normal that I'm so excited over every single user that signs up?
You guys, who, I'm sure, have forums with BILLIONS of members, when, if ever, does that feeling wear off?
B
Yes, if you are a real community person! It's great that you have this motivation, because any forum startup is a labor of love.
I don't think the feeling goes away, but the bar gets higher. Eventually, it may take a two hundred new members day, or a 10K posts day, to really get your juices pumping.
Good luck - often, we get so wrapped up in the technical and business details here we forget to focus on the psychic rewards one can get from building a community. Thanks for posting!
