If you purchased online advertising from IAC Search & Media, Inc. and/or ASK Jeeves, Inc. (collectively “Ask”) between August 1, 2005 and the present, you are a class member in a class-action lawsuit, Lane’s Gifts and Collectibles et al. v. Ask Jeeves, Inc. et al,, Case No. CV-2005-52-1, in the Circuit Court of Miller County, Arkansas. The Settlement Notice informs you of the Court’s certification of a class; the nature of the claims alleged; your right to participate in, or exclude yourself from, the class; a proposed settlement; and how you can claim an award of advertising credits under the settlement.
I think and hope that others will follow with similar action toward the other big PPC companies as they all really need to get their act together in this area.
"Under the settlement, Ask will establish an $820,000 settlement fund, of which a portion will be
used to pay class counsel’s fees and costs, and the remainder will be available to class members
in the form of advertising credits that may be applied to up to 50% of the cost of future online
advertising purchased from Ask."
- I got two emails within an hour.
- The website looks like a crappy domain squatting affair.
- The settlement lists that ASK, which isn't the name of the company anymore, will establish an $820,000 million settlement fund. That number would be $820,000,000,000, wouldn't it? Isn't all of ASK.com worth a few tens of millions?

- Don't they have to mail notice of a legal settlement?
Regardless, if they are offering "credits for future advertising," it certainly won't entice me to give them another chance. In my mind their traffic has gotten way worse since last year.
Anyone have more thoughts about this?

$820K total. $800k for the lawyers, 50% of the rest to mail the notices and and 40% of of it to print the $0.02 credit vouchers ;)
Am I that far off? I have yet to see a real $ class settlement...altough I will be getting $25 from Visa.

The website certainly does, but then text with grammatical/spelling errors always has that effect on me:

Perhaps it was the mention of 'ask' that did for their copywriter?
Plus, registrations through Domains by Proxy aren't exactly reassuring (although the IP is owned by administar who seem to be handling the case, so it's genuine, just a bit of a shoddy job if you ask me!).

I've always gotten 'official' class action stuff by snail mail.
It usually doesn't contain (you must act now) terminology.
