CHINESE search engine giant Baidu has launched an English-language blog on the country's online culture, a company spokesman said on Tuesday, as the firm looks to expand into overseas markets.
Baidu Beat intends to introduce and explain to foreign users the hot topics and trends on China's Internet, which is now used by more than 450 million people, spokesman Kaiser Kuo told AFP.
'It's really out of a desire to give people who are interested in China but who don't necessarily read Chinese or don't read fluently in Chinese an opportunity to understand what Chinese Internet users are doing,' he said.

I would have a difficult time taking any blog writing seriously knowing the amount of censorship their citizens are subject to. By the time the Politburo folks proofread, sterilize, and approve the blog comments there probably would be very little truth left in the presentation. Besides, I need look no further than my server logs to know what their internet users are doing -- how rude.

There are some very good and critical Chinese blogs and (very lively) Internet forums. However, a blog made by Baidu is probably not one of them.
Half of the things you can read in the West about China is not really true, or is extremely simplified. Same applies for things you can read in China about the West.
That's why its nice to have some web sites and be able to actually live here and get to know it first hand.

I think all countires do there best to make their population parnoid of the other country. I assume all goverments are scared of the people and what could happen if they decide enough is enough. I for one welcome meeting people from other countries as most of the time when we sit down we both come to the understanding we are human and share the same world together.
One day we (world) may find a common ground were war isn't the answer. Is this the answer probably not but is sure is a good starting point.
