Aussie is understood as pertaining to Australians. Ozzie and Ozzy are unused, or at best associated with a Pink Fluffy Puppet, and would really be a waste of time, effort and money.

If aiming purely at Australians, then I would make the .com.au the primary to facilitate listings in Australian versions of the major engines. I am assuming you are aware of the restrictions placed on .au domains?

I'd agree with you on Ozzy (we thought that would be best for overseas visitors), but I have definitely seen Ozzie used on numerous ocassions.

A quick search for ozzie or Aussie in Google shows plenty of examples.

Primary domain should definitely be 'aussie' and definitely .au, assuming you are eligible.

For the selection of the main domain name - it should be respectable (not too off beat). You could include your mispellings within the content of the website, but your domain name is important to gain credibility.

Australian or Australia within the domain if appropriate (and is not going to make it too long) could be another choice.

other alternatives might be:

aust
aus
au
stralia
etc etc

Using Ozzy or Ozzie may get a lot of traffic from heavy metal fans (think Ozzy Osborne, Black Sabbath). Whether or not they might convert with your client's site would determine if this was a bad or good thing.

Aussie is pronounced as "ozzie" in Australia - something lost on other nationals other than NZ. Yes, I bought an ozziesomething domain but only because the more desirable prefixes had gone. Even the .com.au ones are pretty hard to get in some niches.

I see Oz used a lot in Oz but it doesn't work well overseas.

Ozzie and Ozzy would not work for Australians.
